12/7/2006Long Island, NY. Nixon Peabody LLP, a full-service law firm with more than six hundred attorneys nationwide, has collaborated with the in-house legal department at CA, Inc. (formerly known as Computer Associates) to win asylum on behalf of a Kenyan national who had been repeatedly persecuted in his homeland. Nixon Peabody and CA provided their services pro bono, which means the legal services they provided were for free.
- Nixon Peabody agrees to defend Town of Hancock against the Friends of the Upper Delaware River; National law firm with strong roots in Upstate New York will represent the town on a pro bono basis

Nixon Peabody LLP, one of the largest law firms in the country with strong roots in Upstate New York, has agreed to defend the Town of Hancock, pro bono, in a potential litigation concerning the Town of Hancock’s response to the extraordinary floods in June and July 2006, which was recently threatened by Friends of the Upper Delaware River. Because it believes the Town quickly and actively responded to the flooding in order to minimize the damages incurred, and because this small, rural town cannot afford legal counsel, Nixon Peabody agreed to provide legal services to the Town of Hancock on a pro bono basis, which means the legal services it provides are for free.

Bloomberg and Roberto Clemente, Jr., the president of the Roberto Clemente Sr. Foundation, for the first-ever Gracie Mansion Tee-Ball Tournament. The tournament celebrated youth athletics, teamwork, and community sports with 5-to-7-year-old little leaguers from all five New York City boroughs.

- Stacey Slater Appointed Pro Bono Partner of Nixon Peabody LLP
10/19/2005New York. Stacey Slater, who has been a litigator at Nixon Peabody
for the past ten years, has been named the firm’s first pro bono partner. She
will administer the firm’s expanding pro bono program, and head Nixon Peabody’s
Pro Bono Committee, which meets regularly and consists of at least one partner
from most of the firm’s sixteen offices. The appointment demonstrates the firm’s
dedication to pro bono work and its desire to give back to the community.

9/21/2005Albany, New York. Kara L.K. Leopold, an attorney with the firm of Nixon Peabody LLP, based in Albany, has been selected as recipient of the New York State Bar Association’s Hanna S. Cohn Young Lawyer Award, which recognizes outstanding pro bono service of an attorney under the age of 36 who has practiced law for less than ten years. Ms. Leopold was selected from among other young attorney candidates across the state.
- New York State Bar Association Honors Nixon Peabody with 2005 President’s Pro Bono Service Award; Annual Awards Honor Outstanding Pro Bono Service in the Legal Field
