Experience

Tatiana Gutierrez Abendschein focuses her practice in affordable housing law, representing developers, investors, syndicators, management companies, and housing authorities on affordable housing transactions and dispositions. She has experience with various HUD/FHA matters including transfers of physical assets, FHA-insured loan prepayments, Section 236 decouplings, Section 8 project-based contract renewals and assignments, Mark-to-Market debt restructurings, mixed-finance transactions, Uniform Relocation Act, public housing, REAC, 2530, APPS, and other HUD regulatory matters.

Tatiana also serves as counsel to syndicators disposing of tax credit properties as well as counsel to developers on new construction and acquisition/rehabilitation of affordable housing projects, financed through tax-exempt bonds, low-income housing tax credits and various public and private sources. She also represents District of Columbia tenant associations in tenant purchases and conversions. Tatiana commenced her career in affordable housing at Georgetown University Law Center’s Harrison Institute for Public Law in 2002. 

In addition to her busy practice, Tatiana is actively involved with firm-wide initiatives. She is the chair of the diversity recruiting committee and in the Washington, DC office, she serves as the deputy pro bono coordinator and the leading representative on the Associates Council.

In 2009, Tatiana was appointed by the Board of Governors of the DC Bar to serve a two-year term on the DC Bar Lawyer Assistance Committee. The Committee oversees the Lawyer Assistance Program which was established by the DC Bar in 1985 and is one of the first lawyer assistance programs in the country.
